Vince Guaraldi 's Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus was the pianist/composer's first session with his then new trio (1961) featuring Monty Budwig on bass, and Colin Bailey on drums. The album marked Guaraldi's first big break. It includes selections from Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luiz Bonfa's score for Marcel Camus' classic film Black Orpheus , plus an original composition by Guaraldi titled "Cast Your Fate to the Wind", released as single a huge hit around the world, reaching gold status success and a Grammy Award for Best Original Jazz Composition. Includes the bonus tracks from the same sessions, not on the original LP: "Samba De Orfeu" (single version) and "Manha De Carnaval" (alternate take). Vince Guaraldi (1926 - 1976) who died prematurely at just 47 is also famously known for the music he composed for the animated television adaptations of the Peanuts comic strip. His compositions for the series included the signature melody "Linus & Lucy" and the holiday standard "Christmas Time Is Here", and the later soundtrack to "A Charlie Brown Christmas", composed principally by Guaraldi, became the best-selling jazz LP of the time. "Brilliant jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi embraces the equally brilliant music of Antonio Carlos Jobim and Henry Mancini, along with his own compositions, highlighted by his haunting classic 'Cast Your Fate to the Wind'. Every performance by the trio is exquisite. Monty Budwig on bass and Colin Bailey on drums perfectly complement Guaraldi's delicate touch on the keys. Almost heaven." - Tim Griggs, AllMusic
