Wolf Eyes never stay still for long and are loved as much for the sprawling art-damaged chaos of their impossible-to-follow discography (though props to Henry Rollins for trying) as they are for the beautifully realised industrial psychedelia they've committed to wax. The latest chapter of this comes in the form of a supergroup of sorts - the core Wolf Eyes duo of Nate Young and John "Inzane" Olson getting together with former member Aaron Dilloway (now a respected solo artist in his own right with records on PAN, The Trilogy Tapes and Dais) and Gretchen Gonzales Davidson, formerly of early-00s Kill Rock Stars group Slumber Party. The record is also a celebration of 20 years of Wolf Eyes, with the band's roots going back to the merging of 2 Michigan basement duos, Young and Dilloway's nascent version of Wolf Eyes, and Olson and Gonzales' band Universal Indians. They're taking Universal Eyes out on the road, with a launch party in Detroit on album release day, and a show in London as part of the 3 days Wolf Eyes residency at Cafe Oto. Recorded, mixed and mastered in one weekend (courtesy of Detroit underground legend Warren Defever of 4AD band His Name Is Alive), and pressed in very limited quantity by their friends at Third Man, this is one for the true Trip Metal junkies.
