Originally released in 1989 on their own Thwart Productions label, Tangle marked the vinyl debut of Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 and a leap forward in their surrealist, genre-scrambling approach. Following their cassette debut Wormed, By Leonard, the band pushed further into warped structures and unorthodox textures. Opener ‘Sister Hell’ hinted at the group’s future mutations, gaining traction in the underground circuit of the time.

The rest of the album channels crackling dissonance, outsider balladry, chaotic improv, and a singular sense of purpose—laying the groundwork for the group’s revered '90s output. Produced by longtime collaborator Greg Freeman and now remastered from the original tapes by Mark Gergis, this reissue restores Tangle with fresh sonic clarity and updated artwork from original film negatives.
