“Unleashed In Japan†isn‘t just a simple re-release – it is way more than that! Firstly, “Unleashed In Japan†presents a new live album from The Winery Dogs, and the eponymous studio album comes as a bonus so to say. Secondly, the aforementioned live album is also available as a vinyl version. And last but not least there is also a box set named “Dog Treats†containing various rarities from The Winery Dogs on top of the live and the studio album.
The live album was recorded at one of the earlier Winery Dogs shows their second ever to be precise and it features 4 songs that are not included on the studio effort. “Stand†in its original version is featured on the Poison album Native Tongue on which Kotzen played during his brief stay with the band, “Shine†is a Mr. Big hit from second Kotzen featured album Actual Size, “You Can’t Save Me†is a Kotzen solo song and “Fooled Around And Fell In Love†is a cover song by blues guitarist Elvin Bishop from 1975. The second disc of the CD version is the same as released last fall and features the radio rock faves “Elevate†and “Time Machineâ€Â.
The vinyl version (that comes with a free download code) features only the live record which has never been released as a stand-alone version. The box set called “Dog Treats†includes both the live and the studio album plus a third CD with original demos called “The Winery Pupsâ€Â, a DVD that contains music videos and interviews with the band, an extended booklet with am in-studio diary written by Mike Portnoy himself that describes in detail each day in the studio during the recording of the album. And it also has 3 fantastic gimmicks: a Winery Dogs dog tags with a chain,a wine bottle topper and an embroidered paw print logo patch.
