1965 saw the Stones prove themselves capable of writing classic rock singles that mined their R&B and blues roots, but updated them into a more guitar-based, thoroughly contemporary context. Features a couple of underrated early pop gems - 'I'm Free', and the sublimely cynical 'Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man'. There are also standout mid-'60s soul covers, including Marvin Gaye's 'Hitch Hike', Solomon Burke's 'Cry to Me', and Sam Cooke's 'Good Times', as well as their own, soulful plea - 'Heart Of Stone'.
