The Planet Smashers are one of those bands you can always rely on to put a smile on your face. Whether you’re dancing at one of their packed live shows or spinning one of their classic records, you can’t help being swept up in the infectious energy and undeniable positivity the band brings to everything they do. We could shamelessly brag about how they’ve toured every corner of the globe, headlined huge stages, received countless glowing press features, racked up over 30 million plays at Spotify, amassed hundreds of thousands of video views and just generally kicked ass; but we’re not going to do that. Let’s talk about the new record instead. You’d think after 30 years of nonstop ska punk mayhem The Planet Smashers might be showing some signs of slowing down…But you’d be dead wrong. On The Dancefloor is The Planet Smashers’ massive TENTH (and arguable best) studio album and it marks a return to the band's roots. Firmly planted in 2Tone era ska, OTD is thirteen massive tracks drenched with the Planet Smashers’ trademark up(off)beat sound. There’s love songs, break-up songs, songs about standing up to tyranny, party songs, rebel anthems and songs about just trying to make it through the damn day. No Smashers record would be complete without some special guests and OTD is no exception. Neville Staple (The Specials), Charley 'Aitch' Bembridge (The Selecter) and Sara Johnston (Bran Van 3000) lend their exceptional talents to a couple seriously awesome songs. And the stunning and complex album artwork was done by the insanely awesome Scorpion Dagger. The world might be a dumpster fire at the moment but The Planet Smashers remain an enduring pillar of positivity in the face of constant negativity. We’ll see you on the dancefloor. For fans of: The Specials, The Selector, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Interrupters, Reel Big Fish "The Smashers are in tip-top form, serving up sizzling platters of third-wave ska with a little punk thrown in for rebellion's sake" – Alternative Press "There's a certain comfort that comes with putting on a new Planet Smashers record for the first time all those upstrokes, that brass, the never-ending party." – Exclaim "It's good to have The Planet Smashers continuing to fly the ska flag proudly and I, for one, will stand with them." - Big Wheel Magazine “I always liked ska and this band has never failed to impress me, but this one really stands out.
