The Electric Light Orchestra was formed in Birmingham, England in the autumn of 1970 by Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne, who both had a desire to create modern rock and pop songs with classical overtones. ELO's ambitious yet irresistible fusion of Beatlesque pop, classical arrangements, and futuristic iconography rocketed the group to massive commercial success throughout the 1970s.
E.L.O 2 is the second album by The Electric Light Orchestra, released in 1973. The tracks are longer than standard rock songs, and feature multi-layered orchestral instruments that create a dense, complex sound which showcases Jeff Lynne's talent as album producer. It contains the song 'Roll Over Beethoven' which became one of ELO's signature songs and was used to close all of their concerts. The single also went on to become their second consecutive top 10 hit.
