An Icelandic post-metal outfit with roots in progressive, black, and Viking metal, Sólstafir were founded in 1995 by longtime friends Aðalbjörn ‘Addi’ Tryggvason (guitar, vocals), Halldór Einarsson (bass), and Guðmundur Óli ‘Gummi’ Pálmason (drums). After 2005’s Masterpiece of Bitterness drew rave reviews across the globe for its musical bravery, 2009’s Köld (extreme cold in English) saw the nonconformist Northmen pushing the envelope yet further.
