SEAN ROWE New Lore LP Vinyl NEW Red 2017

Singer and songwriter Sean Rowe's rather astonishing singing voice evokes the sound of the ages. His big rumbling baritone bears traces of John Lee Hooker, Greg Brown, Wilson Pickett, and others, though it is utterly unaffected. Rowe hails from Troy, New York. In his teens he discovered the blues of Muddy Waters and Hooker as well as the soul music of Marvin Gaye and Ray Charles. He began playing guitar and learning songs by virtually every artist he admired - and then some. The latest album New Lore was produced by Matt Ross-Spang (Grammy-Winning engineer of Jason Isbell’s Something More Than Free, one of Sean's favorite records of last year). He is a musical Willy Wonka, and his Chocolate Factory is the legendary Sam Phillips Studio in Memphis, TN. This place has an unmatched soul and a vibe that stems from the history of Memphis as a haven for many of Sean's musical heroes.
