Released at the turn of the millennium, Ghetty Green marks the solo breakthrough of Memphis rap mainstay Project Pat, following his work with The Kaze and close affiliation with Three 6 Mafia. The album stands as a defining statement from an artist deeply embedded in the Southern rap lineage, pairing street-level narratives with a sharp sense of rhythm and menace.

Produced by DJ Paul and Juicy J, the record is built on heavy 808s, tense drum patterns and soul-sourced samples that give Pat’s delivery maximum space to cut through. His trademark triplet flow is front and centre, balancing grit, humour and confrontation with an unforced authority that helped shape the Memphis sound’s wider impact.

The album also reflects the moment when regional rap began to command national attention, bolstered here by a strong supporting cast. Appearances from Three 6 Mafia associates sit alongside contributions from Cash Money’s Big Tymers and Hot Boyz, as well as Noreaga, Krayzie Bone and Crucial Conflict, reinforcing the record’s status as a crossroads release for late-’90s hip-hop.

Direct, uncompromising and influential, Ghetty Green remains a cornerstone of Southern rap history.
After releasing several albums and mixtapes with fellow H-Town rapper Chamillionaire, Paul Wall signed a deal with Atlantic/Asylum/Swishahouse and released the gold-certified single "Sittin Sideways" in the summer of 2005. The People's Champ , featuring Paul Wall's famous platinum and diamond grillz on the cover, was released on September 13, 2005, debuting at #1 on the Billboard Charts. The album is an ode to the laid-back Houston culture of hustling, cars, sippin' on purple drank while listening to Chopped and Screwed music. The album had the internet goin' nuts with features from Texas contemporaries Mike Jones, Big Pokey, Bun B, as well as southern rap stars Three 6 Mafia, T.I., and Lil Wayne. The album spawned another gold single from the Kanye West-produced track "Drive Slow" and would push sales to Platinum status. Paul Wall went on to release fourteen more albums, with his latest, The Tonite Show, this past July.
