Through the gospel-impassioned fury of his vocals and the complex polyrhythms of his beats, James Brown became the single most important figure in the transformation of rhythm & blues into SOUL music. This quintessential release includes the James Brown & His Famous Flames' seminal studio album which has been long out of print: Tour the U.S.A. (1962), despite the title, this is not a live record although the set almost has the same feeling as some of the James Brown Show LPs. The LP features Brown and his band performing on half of the tracks, plus some instrumental pieces by other artists on the King label. This masterpiece helped define the primal nature of soul and offer a solid introduction into this man's special brand of musical feeling, his own passionate style, intense delivery and R&B innovation. This remastered collector's edition also contains 4 bonus tracks from the same period, which weren't included on the original album.
