Florence and the Machine attended art school before dropping out to pursue music. Her big break came in late 2006 when she belted out Something's Got a Hold on Me by Etta James to Mairead Nash of the DJ duo Queens of Noize in a bar bathroom.

After that remarkable encounter, Mairead signed Florence and a debut single, Kiss With a Fist was released on the Moshi Moshi Singles Club in June 2008. With debut album Lungs arriving the following year, it proved a key moment in her journey to becoming one of Britain’s biggest and most acclaimed stars.
