Dokken is one of the defining bands of the 1980s hard rock and heavy metal scene, known for blending melodic hooks with powerful guitar work and emotionally charged vocals.

Formed in Los Angeles in the late 1970s, the band was led by vocalist Don Dokken and featured the virtuosic guitar playing of George Lynch, alongside bassist Jeff Pilson and drummer Mick Brown. Dokken rose to prominence during the peak of the MTV era with a string of platinum-selling albums, including Breaking the Chains (1983), Tooth and Nail (1984), and Under Lock and Key (1985) racking up sales of more than 10 million albums. Their sound struck a balance between radio -friendly melodies and aggressive metal, producing hits like “Alone Again,” “In My Dreams,” and “It’s Not Love.” Their 1987 release Back for the Attack further cemented their legacy, showcasing both commercial success and musical complexity.

Live from the Sun is Dokken's fourth live album, originally released on April 18, 2000. The album was recorded on November 4, 1999, at the Sun Theatre in Anaheim, California, during the touring cycle for Erase the Slate. Live from the Sun documents a unique era of Dokken. While many fans consider Beast from the East (1988) the band's definitive live release, Live from the Sun showcases the Reb Beach lineup performing both classic hits and newer material from Erase the Slate.
