This release contains the complete original album Quartet: Russ Freeman and Chet Baker, which would mark the last collaboration ever between Baker (1929-1988) and the pianist after a fruitful association that had begun in 1952 and produced dozens of recorded gems, including this final album. Although the LP presented here features the Chet Baker Quartet (in what was a reunion session), it was originally released under pianist Russ Freeman s name. All but two of the eight songs on the set ( Love Nest and Lush Life ) are compositions by the pianist and they often feature both challenging chord changes and swinging solos. As previously mentioned, Chet and Russ would never record together again following this album. Born in 1926, Freeman died in 2002 at the age of 76.
