Booker Stardrum and Evan Shornstein are both artists with a singular voice. As a drummer, Booker has developed a reputation for being one of the experimental jazz scene’s most original groove drummers. Combining his melodic sensibility with percussive instruments to create a sound all his own. Evan Shornstein, aka Photay, has carved out a corner of the electronic music scene that showcases him as both a master of synthesizers and drums. When you combine the two, Booker and Evan create an explosive world of beats, electronics, and melody. Their music feels fresh yet familiar, groovy and emotional. ??Booker and Evan have been working together on different projects for the past several years. Oscillating between moments in Los Angeles and the Hudson Valley, the two play concerts and record together frequently. In the summer of 2025, after a largely improvised concert in Los Angeles, the two were approached by Spencer Zahn to create a full-length LP for his new label, Sudden Quarterly. In November 2025, they began recording and their week-long session yielded their first full-length album together, OOPS!. ??OOPS! is both playful and focused. Each song bouncing through rhythmic landscapes that are sprinkled with ear-candy moments. The title track “OOPS!” begins with bubbling synthesizer sequences and a deep drum groove, all framed by piano and electronics. Shornstein utilizes his depth of mastery with electronic instruments, creating bright synth spaces. While Stardrum adds the acoustic element of the group with his acoustic drum kit and percussion. The result is an album that holds attention through its unique tones and keeps the listener moving with chill rhythms and beats.
