Best known for his work with Charles Mingus, saxophonist Booker Ervin was a distinctive soloist with an assertive sound. One of his pinnacle statements as a leader was 'Structurally Sound', cut for Pacific Jazz in 1966 with a quintet featuring Charles Tolliver, John Hicks, Red Mitchell, and Lenny McBrowne.
