One Little Indian Records will be releasing Billy Mackenzie’s most vital album, ‘Beyond The Sun’, on heavyweight vinyl  - the first time the record has seen a vinyl release. The album, originally released posthumously by Nude Records in 1997, remains unfinished following Mackenzie’s untimely death the same year.

The reissue, limited to just 500 copies, is to commemorate what would have been the extraordinary artist’s 60th birthday.

Perhaps best known as one of the founding members of Associates with guitarist Alan Rankine, Billy Mackenzie achieved great commercial and cultural success in the eighties, with hits such as ‘Club Country’. Though it was his rejection of this success and his retreat from the public eye that probably most informed the artist’s following solo albums, works that are now equally recognised as profound and evocative.

From Siouxsie Sioux to Robert SmithCarole Morin to BjorkMorrissey to Bono, Billy Mackenzie’s world of ethereal melancholy has touched fans and artists alike. ‘Cut Here’ by The Cure is famously about Robert Smith’s regret after seeing Mackenzie just a few weeks prior to his death and feeling as though he had fobbed him off. Morrissey is also popularly believed to have written ‘William, It Was Really Nothing’ about his brief friendship with Mackenzie, a play on the title of Associates track ‘Stephen, You’re Really Something’.
