Saint Saviour returns with her first album in five years, Tomorrow Again features tracks with Badly Drawn Boy, Willy Mason and Bill Ryder-Jones.

In her new work, we’re not seeing Becky Jones in the mode of a character actor, taking on stories and firing them upwards into life – that’s all been replaced by something more personal, yet still looking outward. There’s something in the air, as we’ve seen with the likes of Aldous Harding and Weyes Blood, 2019 is ushering something more personal; something with a deeper honesty.

On both Wake Me and Rock Pools, there’s something stirring - we’re hearing songs of experience; the cycles of life through loss, new life, working through pain, anger, joy – it’s all there, permeating through the gorgeously tender songs. On The Place I Want To Be we hear a fragile song built around a delicately played dulcitone and intimate vocals which are gradually embellished creating something both wistful and strong.

Musically, there’s panoramic baroque-rock that has echoes of the late, great Scott Walker, to pieces that are sparser, looking through a mother’s eyes, with a longing, and working things out. There’s songs for her children, and songs for herself, written in a remote place, overlooking the sea. However, this is no mealy-mouthed run of self-analytical, self-indulgence - there’s electronics that swell and wrestle with the organics, and the kind of gallows humour that only comes from a hardened spirit that has started to find a levity in all the turbulence.

The music of Saint Saviour has always been a powerful experience, be it soul baring righteousness, or finding the dignity of getting back on your feet through difficult-times – there’s strength throughout, no matter how it finds you.
