Produced by Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev)

In the early to mid 90s, Detroit was a haven for shoegaze and dreampop
Bands. This has been well-documented by Third Man Records on the excellent
compilations, Southeast of Saturn Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. Spectacle, who were featured
on the first volume, were one of the guiding lights of the Detroit shoegaze scene in
the early 90s. While the four band members were still in their teens, Spectacle were
routinely headlining shows and sharing bills with their esteemed peers Majesty
Crush and Thirsty Forest Animals. After releasing an EP entitled Developing In A
World Without Sound (Constellation Records), they were signed by Sony to begin
working on what would be their first full-length album.
Melborn was recorded in 1993 with Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips,
Mercury Rev, etc.) and Dave Feeney producing at Tempermill. The album was
completed, but while the band members began planning for its release and
scheduling tour dates, Sony ended up dropping Spectacle without ever releasing
the album. Now, after more than 30 years have passed since the recording sessions,
painted air is very proud to present Spectacle's unreleased debut album.
Spanning seven songs, Melborn moves from shimmering shoegaze to
psych-rock bombast as each song intricately layered with the guitar tones of Loren
Jackson and Travis Hawthorne, the finely orchestrated drum pummeling of Eric
Campbell, and the smooth and steady bass playing of Nick Sheren. Sadly, the band
went their separate ways after the recordings were completed. Loren Jackson and
Eric Campbell formed Transient Waves, a highly influential band in the ambient music
Genre. Travis Hawthorne currently records downtempo music as T.S.
