The record was named an Album of the Year by The Wire and Jazz Right Now, and landed on Pitchfork's Best Experimental LPs of 2016, Rolling Stone's Best Avant Albums of 2016, and Thump's 25 Best Experimental Albums of 2016. \"Deadbeat Protest\" made both Pitchfork's and Noisey's Best Songs of 2016 lists, and Bandcamp named Ayewa its 2016 Artist of the Year while including Fetish Bones among its 100 Best Records of 2016.
